How to solve a riddle
Most riddles hide one of three tricks. A double meaning: "stories", "keys", "eye" and "hands" all mean two things. A hidden assumption: you picture four people when there are three. A literal reading: "what month has 28 days?" means at least 28. When you are stuck, read the riddle again and ask which word is doing two jobs.
Questions people ask
What is a good riddle with an answer?
"The more of me you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?" Answer: footsteps. It is short, fair and makes people groan when they hear it.
What makes a riddle hard?
Hard riddles lean on a double meaning (stories in a library, "ton" backwards) or on an assumption you did not notice you made, like two fathers and two sons being four people.
